Heathcote MP Lee Evans has rejected the community engagement report on the Heathcote Road bridge upgrade and is appealing to Transport Minister Andrew Constance to intervene.
Mr Evans, a government MP, said there was "overwhelming support" for a four-lane crossing.
"I strongly dispute the interpretation of Transport for NSW's community engagement report," Mr Evans said in a statement on Friday.
"I recently conducted my own consultation with the community and as predicted, there is overwhelming support for four lanes. To date all 1,560 people who completed my petition want four lanes.
"I have written to the Minister for Transport on behalf of these individuals with their personal comment supporting a four lane bridge and have asked the minister to address their concerns.
"I agree that work needs to be carried out to make the bridge safer, but I did not secure $73 million for this project for the bridge to only be widened by 2.67 metres.
"As I have always maintained, this bridge needs to be four lanes and I will continue to advocate for a better solution to future proof this vital corridor."
The Transport for NSW report, which was released on Thursday, dismissed calls to duplicate the bridge and said the proposed widening of the bridge would proceed.
The report said feedback received from 235 respondents, who made a comment about a new bridge / more lanes / duplicate bridge, was "out of scope" [outside the scope of the consultation process].
