The COVID shortened Cronulla Junior League is getting to the pointy end of the 2020 season after round eight was completed.
De La Salle sits on top of the Open Gold ladder (A-Grade) in a year where there were several changes to the Rugby League drink breaks and trainers rules as a result of COVID-19.
In a milestone game last week St Josephs RL Mitch Roberts showed his true commitment and dedication over the last 20 years running out to play his 300th game against De La Salle in the Open Gold match at his home ground Kareela Oval.
Roberts was hailed as true club man and became only the third player at St Joseph's to achieve the 300 game honour for the club. As part of reaching this milestone, he was also bestowed the honour of becoming Joey's 17th life member.
De La Salle spoiled the party and won the match 20 - 6, but while Joeys didn't get the win, they hung tough and put in a good performance.
The Cronulla JRL also informed clubs that they have decided to cancel the Tommy Bishop Shield in 2020.
Chairman Nathan Waugh said that many people from many districts including players and parents from across the state travel to attend this event, and it would breach the current NSW Public Health Order to move forward with the event.
"This event is well-regarded and highly anticipated each year in the junior rugby league calendar which attracts huge numbers of U8 players every year to the Sutherland Shire," he said.
"We look forward to welcoming teams from around the state next year for the 2021 Tommy Bishop Shield."
