A Rockdale unit block was evacuated after a van caught fire in an underground car park yesterday.
At about 4am Tuesday Fire and Rescue NSW crews from across Sydney's south were called to reports of a building fire on Chapel Street, Rockdale.
Firefighters arrived to find a large amount of smoke pluming from the underground carpark of a multi-tenanted building.
Firefighters entered the smoke filled car park of the three-level building and found a van on fire.
The van was extinguished however due to smoke, heat and sewer pipe damage some occupants were unable to return to their apartments.
About 30 people were evacuated and NSW Police and NSW Ambulance were in attendance. No injuries were reported.
Fire and Rescue NSW Hurstville and Kogarah crews assisted FRNSW Fire Investigation and Research Unit removing the burnt-out van out of an underground garage.
Crews had to use Holmatro Spreaders to manoeuvre the van onto car wheel dolly before pushing the van out for the towing company.
