Georges River Council has installed a new LED display screen in Hurstville Plaza, which will be used to enhance the community's use of the public square by screening performances, international sporting events and movies.
Georges River Council mayor Kevin Greene said that the screen will complement existing events hosted at Hurstville Plaza.
"Since Council launched Hurstville Plaza last year, the public square has been used for a number of successful event activations, including the Eat/Art Night Markets, Fringe Festival events and Council's Lunar New Year Festival in February this year," Councillor Greene said.
"While we unfortunately are currently not able to host any major public events due to COVID-19 restrictions, we look forward to the future where everyone is able to come together and enjoy Council's impressive events line-up once again," he said.
Deputy Mayor Con Hindi originally called for the installation of the screen in Hurstville Plaza, so that the community could enjoy more entertainment options locally.
"I am delighted to launch this new screen in Hurstville Plaza, which will deliver a range of quality events and live performances to a broader audience," Cr Hindi said.
"The screen will also be a useful asset for the promotion of Council's events and activities, including its COVID-19 Safe Community Events Program which will run from September 2020 through to February 2020," he said.
The screen is weather-proof and provides a 160 degree coverage and light sensing technology to regulate brightness from day to night.
The display screen will also be used as a Council marketing channel.
