Police were called to The Ridge netball courts during a preliminary final last weekend following a complaint public health orders were not being observed.
Sutherland Shire Netball Association reported the incident on its Facebook page with a reminder that, for grand finals this weekend, each team is allowed to have only 15 people, including players, coaches, managers, umpires and spectators.
The details of the report to police were not revealed in the post by association president Karen Salter and executive, who wrote: "Congratulations everyone. We have made it to day 9 and our grand final celebration.
"Last Saturday, our finals day at The Ridge, we received a COVID visit from NSW Police during the 12:00 time slot following a complaint. We were requested to make additional announcements that the NSW police were in attendance to ensure adherence to public health orders.
"As part of our grand final celebration we must all continue to follow our COVID Safety Plan. We all understand that this is far from a normal season but this is not a normal year. We are limited to 500 persons in each of our outdoor playing zones.
"That equates to a maximum of 15 people per team, per court, including players, coaches, managers, umpires and spectators.
"Thank you to all our members and their families for their understanding and compliance with our return to play plan. We look forward to your continued support and co-operation on our finals day at Bellingara."
The limit on the number of parents who can attend junior sport finals came under fire on the Leader Facebook page after yesterday's announcement by Premier Gladys Berejiklian that crowds of up to 40,000 will be allowed at NRL finals.
Many people complained about the "inconsistency" of rules, which have also cut numbers at HSC graduation ceremonies and stopped dancing at weddings.
Comments included:
- Good to see common sense prevails...NOT. No graduation ceremonies for 100 Yr 12 students, but we can pack 40 000 randoms into a sports ground. Go figure!
- No consistency at all now. Whoever shows the $$$ gets what they want, but the kids of 2020 keep missing out
- Can not see my grandmother in a nursing home or attend my twins preschool graduation, however we can approve this...
- They wonder why people are frustrated, angry and protesting.
- It just makes you so angry when there are so many inconsistencies.
- I'm actually really sad now ...
- And we are not allowed to go to our kids junior rugby league grand final, 1 parent limit .
- Crowds for footy.. but you can't dance at a wedding.
- Whilst we have to watch our kids graduate via zoom next week.
- And only one parent at junior rugby league grand finals.
