A cyclist received critical injuries when he hit a parked ute at Sutherland this morning.
Emergency services were called to the accident scene in Rawson Avenue about 7.30am.
"Police have been told the cyclist was riding along Rawson Avenue before he crashed into the rear of a parked utility," a police statement said.
"A 46-year-old man was treated at the scene, before being taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
"Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash."
NSW Ambulance responded with four paramedic crews and a specialist medical team.
Paramedics treated a man for a severe laceration to his neck.
NSW Ambulance duty operations manager Stanley Harrold said, "These types of accidents are dreadful for everyone involved."
"We often get a limited description of the scene and need to prepare ourselves as quickly as possible to treat our patient," he said.
"We urge everyone to take extra care on the roads. One small error has the potential to be fatal."
