Nominations are now open for the Bayside Citizen of the Year Award honouring those who have made an extraordinary contribution by an individual to the local community.
This can be in the areas of community services, charitable work, education/school development, environment, arts and culture, sport, or humanitarian initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents.
Nominations close on Friday, October30 and the awards will be announced by Mayor Joe Awada on Australia Day Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
Award Categories are:
. Citizen of the Year
. Sportsperson of the Year
. Young Citizen of the Year (16 - 25 years)
Alan Hoynes, the 2020 Bayside Citizen of the Year, received his award from Mayor Joe Awada in recognition of his dedicated community work with the State Emergency Service (SES).
Lea Yanitsas, Bayside Sportsperson of the Year 2020, was part of the Australian Water Polo team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and was heading to the Tokyo Olympics which was postponed.
Rachel Bevan, the 2020 Bayside Young Citizen of the Year, has served the St George District
Netball Association and Arncliffe Scots Netball for the last 10 years in umpiring and coaching.
