Earlier
A major police operation is under way this afternoon in Sutherland Shire.
Numerous police cars, including undercover vehicles, raced to Gannons Road at Caringbah South shortly before 3pm today.
More than a dozen police cars raced to the scene, some driving along nature strips and footpaths before closing a section of Gannons Road to traffic.
Police cars also stopped in neighbouring streets including Dominic Street and Northcote Avenue, where detectives were seen in deep discussion.
Students from nearby Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Collage at Burraneer were prevented from walking up Dominic Street towards Burraneer Park.
An email sent from the school this afternoon containing an urgent message advised parents that a "police incident at the park end of Dominic Street at 2.50pm today meant students could not exit the school in that direction".
"All students have been directed in the opposite direction of the park when leaving the college. Please check your daughter has arrived at her end destination safely this afternoon," the message said.
More to come.
