For more than 20 years, the Salvos Stores shop at Sutherland has been servicing the community's needs, both as a donation point for preloved items and as a point of sale for those after a bargain or wanting to shop more sustainably.
Now, the store has moved from 573 President Avenue to a bigger and more accessible site in Boyle Street, Sutherland, to better serve the needs of the community by allowing for an even wider variety of pre-loved clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac.
The new location also means there is plenty of parking out front, making it easier to donate and shop at the store.
By the time the new store opened its doors for the first time at 9am last Friday, a queue had formed outside and a large number of shoppers visited throughout the day.
"We are incredibly excited to have moved to a larger and more accessible location at Sutherland, and look forward to greeting our long-standing customers from the shire as well as welcoming new faces and providing them with a rewarding shopping experience," said Salvos Stores national director Matt Davis.
He said the store had long been the charity retailer of choice for the Sutherland community, who could be looking for a bargain, or to shop more sustainably whilst supporting the Salvos' community programs across Australia.
A spokeswoman said 100 per cent of Salvos Stores profits goes towards helping those in need in the community through programs to end hunger and homelessness, and build stronger families and communities.
There are 350 Salvos Stores nationally, as well as an online store.
The stores rely on donations from the community as well as a team of dedicated volunteers to sort the donations and provide point of sale service.
Donations can be made at the Sutherland store during opening hours.
Details: Salvos Stores Sutherland is at 6 Boyle Street, Sutherland, and is open Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm.
