Leading Sutherland Shire-based disability services provider Sylvanvale is now accepting applications for a $5000 scholarship open to children and young adults who access its services.
The Lorna Stone Development Award is now in its sixth year but has been expanded to include anyone with a disability up to the age of 25 who attends Sylvanvale or accesses one of its services.
Sylvanvale's board of directors established the scholarship in 2014 in recognition of Mrs Stone's outstanding contribution to the organisation and her tireless advocacy for the rights of children. She was Sylvanvale's chairwoman from 1999 to 2014.
The award encourages education and independence for children and young adults with a disability through the provision of services or purchase of equipment.
Sylvanvale's chief executive Leanne Fretten said the award pays tribute to Mrs Strone and her continuing legacy at Sylvanvale.
"This year, we are excited to extend the award to individuals aged up to 25, enabling us to reach an even wider group of young people in our community," she said.
"Our application process is deliberately uncomplicated and designed to meet the needs of busy families and young people of all abilities."
Sylvanvale Foundation was formed in 1947 by a group of parents to give their children a better quality of life through access to education and social inclusion.
Today it supports more than 750 children and adults across Sydney as they live and participate in their community.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday, October 16.
