A Miranda-based accountant has won one of Australia's top awards for finance industry professionals.
Sonia Gibson, from Accounting Heart, was recently named Women In Finance Awards 2020 Accountant of the Year.
Ms Gibson said the name of her accounting practice, which she opened four years ago, reflected her desire to inject some "heart" into accounting.
"After decades of feeling like my voice at the table was not as valuable as my male colleagues, it was time to be the change I wanted to see," she said.
"Bringing flexibility to women working in the accounting space and moving to a full Cloud-based business structure has enabled the women who work with me the space to use their skills and balance family life."
A key element of her win was her focus on working with women to build financial muscle, so they are financially savvy and know their numbers.
"We are a heart-centred and values-based business; it's at the core of everything we do. We are a firm of people who help people because we know people are emotionally-based not rationally/numbers-based," she said.
"I am so honoured and proud to be recognised by the finance industry in this way."
