Managing disruption is one of the main themes of NSW Small Business Month 2020 which started on October 1.
This year's NSW Small Business Month will build on the success of the past three years by collaborating with 219 local councils and chambers of commerce, as well as over 180 festival partners, across the state.
Oatley MP, Mark Coure, said hundreds of events and activities would be held in local communities throughout the month.
"COVID-19 has caused havoc for our local small businesses. This Small Business Month I want to encourage locals to shop local and support our amazing community.
"Our local community boasts an array of successful small businesses which contribute to a healthy local economy. As a former small business owner myself, I understand the concerns that owners have and the pressures they are under.
"We are blessed in the St George area with a diversity of small businesses. From mechanics, to wholesalers, to cafes, our local area has a wide selection of options to reflect the diverse needs of the community.
"This is important as it allows members of the community to shop locally and keep their money within the local economy.
"Whether it be Spago in Beverly Hills, Jumbuck Meats in Oatley, Little Alley Café in Narwee, Lugarno Pool Shop or Mortdale Wholesalers, our local area is blessed with exceptional service and dedicated business owners.
"These kinds of businesses drive local economies. Small businesses employ almost 2 million people across New South Wales.
"We have a great program this year which have been designed to help businesses overcome the challenges of drought, bushfires, floods and COVID-19," Mr Coure said.
"While the majority of the activities and events will be online this year, the range remains innovative and diverse, with topics including how to leverage social media and how to get your brand online."
Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope said NSW Small Business Month was designed for small and medium business owners looking to upskill and learn from other businesses.
"Festival themes for 2020 include how to manage disruption, future planning, getting your business online, as well as learning all the latest marketing and social media tips," he said.
