Two men were taken to hospital after fire broke out in a house at Ramsgate on Sunday afternoon.
The blaze destroyed the single-level building next to a block of flats in Ramsgate Road, near the intersection of Rocky Point Road and opposite the Intersection Tavern car park entrance.
The alert was raised by neighbours, who saw smoke coming from the house.
Flames shot high into the air and dense black smoke blanketed the area.
While firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, police evacuated neighbouring houses as a precaution.
A police spokesman said two men, who lived in the house, were taken to St George Hospital suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. They were reported to be stable.
"The cause of the fire is unknown," the spokesman said.
"Investigators will wait until the site is declared safe before beginning to examine the scene."
