Beloved TV actress Conchata Farrell has died after complications from cardiac arrest.
The actress, who was best known for her scene-stealing role as Berta in the long-running comedy series Two and a Half Men, was 77 years old.
Deadline reported she died peacefully on Monday (US time) at Sherman Oaks Hospital surrounded by family.
Ferrell was a three-time Emmy nominee and stole hearts as the brash Berta on the Charlie Sheen sitcom.
Her co-star Jon Cryer - who played Alan Harper on the program - took to Facebook to share his sadness at his friend's passing.
"She was a beautiful human," he wrote.
"Berta's gruff exterior was an invention of the writers.
"Chatty's warmth and vulnerability were her real strengths.
"I'm crying for the woman I'll miss, and the job she brought so many."
Cryer said he "felt so lucky" he got to work with Ferrell, from as early as the show's second episode.
"I gushed to her about what a fan I was of hers, and she simply refused to believe it," he said.
"I had to recount on of my favourite bits of hers from a canceled mid-70s sitcom called Hot L Baltimore before she finally got that I was serious.
"I'm glad that I absolutely knew how fortunate I was to share a stage with her. I treasured every moment and will continue to until we meet again."
Cryer encouraged Ferrell's fans to explore her "wonderful body of film work", including Edward Scissorhands, Erin Brockovich, Network and Heartland.
He extended his sympathies to Ferrell's husband Artie and daughter Samantha, her family and "the many students whose lives she touched at UCLA".
Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen tweeted about Ferrell's "shocking and painful loss".
He called her "an absolute sweetheart", a "consummate pro", and a "genuine friend".
"Berta, your housekeeping was a tad suspect, your 'people' keeping was perfect," he wrote.
Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis also took to Facebook to share her grief at Ferrell's loss.
"RIP Conchata Ferrell," she posted.
"I LOVED not just working with you but getting to know you.....your humor, your heart, your talent, how much you loved your daughter and husband..... Thanks for gracing us with your presence! Love ya."
Ferrell appeared in more than 200 episodes of Two and a Half Men.
Other screen credits include L.A. Law, Mr Deeds, K-PAX, True Romance and Mystic Pizza.
