New shared cycle-walk paths in shire to be built with help of $265,000 in state government grants

The existing path next to Dunningham Park on Elouera Road, from the corner of Mitchell Road to Peryman Square, will be made into a much safer route for pedestrians and cyclists to access the Cronulla Centre and Bate Bay foreshore;

The other new path will be on the eastern side of Kiora Road, from President Avenue to Karimbla Road, Miranda.

State MPs Mark Speakman (Cronulla) and Eleni Petinos (Miranda) said the grants would assist Sutherland Shire Council to deliver improvements to encourage more walking and cycling trips.

"We know there is a strong demand for active transport options in these areas, and these improvements will no doubt encourage more people, be it families, recreational users or daily commuters to leave the car at home in favour of walking or cycling," Mr Speakman said in a statement.

Ms Petinos said the projects were part of an investment of about $710 million in walking and cycling infrastructure over the next four years that would bring the NSW Government's total investment to almost $1.1 billion - the largest in the state's history.
