A Carlton man has been charged with assault and affray after an altercation at a City licensed venue last night during which an employee was stabbed.
Another man, from Narwee, was charged with affray, a visitor from Western Australia was given a penalty notice for offensive language and police are looking for two other men.
The incident occurred about 6pm on Thursday at the York Street venue.
"Police have been told a group of five men became involved in a heated argument with staff at the venue," a police statement said.
"An altercation followed in which a man is alleged to have produced a knife and stabbed a 34-year-old employee of the premises. The five men then ran off.
"The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital with stab wounds to his back and side.
"His condition is reported to be serious but stable."
The statement said three men were arrested nearby a short time later.
"A 31-year-old man from Carlton was charged with assault and affray. He was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court ltoday (Friday)," the statement said.
"A 29-year-old man from Narwee was charged with affray. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 26 November.
"A third man, a 34-year-old man from Ridgewood in Western Australia, was issued a Criminal Infringement Notice for offensive language.
"Inquiries are continuing in relation to the other two men allegedly involved."
