Restaurants in Sutherland Shire and St George have been named Hyper-Local award winners in the Menulog Restaurant Awards 2020.
The Best Thai restaurant in the Sydney-Sutherland region went to Siam Thai at Sutherland; while Kanakawa at Engadine was named Best Japanese.
Fortunato's Ristorante Pizzeria at Sutherland won Best Italian, while Best Indian went to Moksha at Jannali. Best Chinese was awarded to Gymea Chinese Restaurant and Jimbobs Restaurant in Engadine took the Best American gong.
In the Inner South West (St George) region, Best Thai went to Gao Thai at Penshurst, while Chi Koko at Hurstville won Best Korean and Tako Japanese Restaurant at Kogarah won Best Japanese.
The Hyper-Local awards are based on the food quality and service ratings left by customers, as well as the number of orders completed over the past 12 months.
Sutherland resident Richard Cox, who built the Siam Thai building in Sutherland 11 years ago and is a close friend and landlord of the restaurant's partner/manager, Min, said it was amazing that his favourite Thai restaurant was recognised in the Menulog awards.
"Our green curry/massaman curry and our flat noodle dishes, and salt and pepper calamari/fish combination, plus our curry puff entrees are my favourites," Mr Cox said.
"All our entrees are made by the girls and all lunch and takeaway orders cooked fresh. No pre-cooked food is sold in Siam."
Menulog commercial director Rory Murphy said: "After a challenging year for the hospitality industry, it's been amazing to see the level of support our restaurant partners have received from their community throughout the year and during our restaurant awards.
"With more than 23,300 Menulog restaurant partners across Australia, to take out a title in our restaurant awards is a huge accomplishment."
