2Connect Youth andCommunity, a local non-profit youth and community organisation, recently achieved a major milestone: 30 years of successfully supporting young people, families and community across St George and Sutherland areas.
The organisation had a double reason to celebrate.
2Connect was also honoured for the third year in a row in the NSW Youth Work Awards.
Although a planned celebration was postponed earlier this year due to Covid, 2Connect wanted to let the community know the importance of this milestone and to reflect on their achievements.
"The achievements over the three decades are very much due to the skills, commitment and experience of our dedicated team and to the support from the community" 2Connect Youth andCommunity chief executive officer, Valentina Angelovska said.
"I am equally grateful to each and every person, organisation, funding partner/donor, government department and school who has supported us along the way with our vision for improved wellbeing and social justice in the community.
"That said, we are looking forward to many more great years ahead where we can support our
local community," Ms Angelovska said.
Since its beginning, 2Connect Youth and Community has provided a range of holistic services that improve the wellbeing of young people, families and communities and implemented community projects based on local needs and issues.
These services included reconnecting young people with their families and education, supporting health/mental health and wellbeing, reducing drug and alcohol harm; homelessness, and securing employment participation.
As well as these key specialist services, 2Connect Youth and Community also runs community development projects based on local community needs.
These projects include anti-racism, domestic and family violence and mental health campaigns, youth leadership and peer education programs, parenting groups and school based programs.
In 2020, 2Connect won the award at the NSW Youth Work Awards for the most Outstanding Youth Participation Award.
In 2019, 2Connect won the award for NSW Youth Service of the Year, and in 2018 NSW Youth Service of the Year (highly commendable).
"2Connect is proud of its innovative and pioneering work which has been recognised at the highly coveted awards program,"
