Australian Summer of Athletics is in full swing

Sprinters hit the track running at the third Illawong Athletics High Performance meet on Saturday at Barden Ridge.

Events on the afternoon program were the 60m, 100m, 200m and high jump and 16 heats were needed in the men's 100m to accommodate the athletes.

Barden Ridges Rohan Browning who competes for Sydney University is Australia's fastest man and made his season debut in the 100m clocking a 10.23.

Browning, coached by triple Olympian and fellow Shire resident Andrew Murphy was also a surprise late entry in the 200m, where he ran his equal second fastest 200m time of 20.77.

His notable one-day double is the best by an Australian runner for a decade following Matt Davies 10.23/20.54 in 2010.

Campbelltown teenager Monique Quirk won the women's 60min a PB time of 7.35. She later also comfortably won the 200m in 24.14.

In the men's 60m, it was a win for Illawong athlete Zach Holdsworth in a windy (2.7m/s) 6.69, ahead of Anas Abu Ganaba (CBT) 6.72.

A member of the 2019 World Relays team Holdsworth also finished second in the 100m.

In the high jump, Illawong teenager Angus Clark continued his upward trajectory winning with a leap of 2.09m.

This Illawong High-Performance sprint event followed on from December's Sutherland Athletic Clubs track and field summer series meet.

The Elzy Wellings 1000m drew a strong field with young star Ivy Boothroyd the winner of the Women's and Olympic Games prospect in the 1500 metres Oliver Hoare, the winner in the men's. Sutherland Athletics will be putting up prize money in the 100m in their next Summer Series on Sunday, January 24.
