Bayside Council has accepted a $1.06 million tender for the delivery of upgrades to six playgrounds across the local government area.
Bayside Council mayor, Councillor Joe Awada said refreshing and improving Bayside Council's outdoor play areas was an important part of maintaining the council's assets.
"Providing playgrounds and open space where young children can develop their social and physical skills, along with challenging them to problem solve and be imaginative, is important in today's society," Councillor Awada said.
The first half of 2021 will see the following playgrounds receive a substantial makeover:
- Bona Park Sans Souci
- Gilchrist Park, Bexley North
- Moorefield Reserve, Kogarah
- Marinea Reserve, Arncliffe
Muller Reserve, Eastgardens and
Whitbread Park, Bexley North
Funding for the upgrades have been included in the Council's 2020/2021 budget.
The improvements planned for each playground may vary but will include the upgrade of play structures or improving play challenges, together with new park seating and landscaping with a focus on shade trees.
Bayside Council looks after and manages over 117 playgrounds across the Local Government Area.
Last month, Bayside Council completed its upgrade of the playground at Bonar Street Park, Arncliffe including play equipment for children aged 2 to 12 years; children's circuit track; shade sail; landscaping; and an area for children to kick a ball.
