NSW has recorded no new local cases or coronavirus for the third day in a row.
Out of 19,989 tests on Tuesday there were zero local COVID-19 cases and three new cases in overseas travellers.
Deputy chief health officer Dr Jeremy McAnulty was happy to see that testing numbers had again risen but urged people with any symptoms to come forward for testing.
"Testing numbers have risen in recent days but are still insufficient to provide confidence that chains of transmission will be picked up," Dr McAnulty said.
"High testing rates help reveal cases that would otherwise go unnoticed, and are an invaluable tool to help in the stop of the spread of COVID-10.
"NSW Health is urging people - especially those in Auburn, Berala and surrounding suburbs as well as across western and south-west Sydney to continue to come forward with even the mildest of symptoms.
"The best way to protect your family and community is to get tested."
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said restrictions could be eased this time next week if case numbers remained low.
"The government's intention is to get to as close to pre-Avalon conditions as possible next week. That is what we ae aiming for," Ms Berejiklian said.
"So if we keep the case numbers low, and it doesn't have to be zero every day, so long as the case numbers remain low, so long as the rates of testing are pretty good, that we will move as close to pre-Avalon as possible in a week's time."
The Premier also said the requirement to wear masks on transport was likely to remain indefinitely to encourage people to return to work in a COVID-safe manner.
She also acknowledged the stress of restrictions on weddings in particular has caused but said this weekend was likely the last weekend they will be in place.
NSW has had 4890 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic started.
NSW Health is treating 99 COVID-19 cases, none of whom are in intensive care.
