NSW Police Force Youth and Crime Prevention Command said teams from Sutherland and St George PCYC joined officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command for a deployment at Cronulla as part of Operation Redirect.
Operation Redirect aims to encourage positive interactions between young people and police, and allows for referrals into several of the "Fit For" programs available through the RISEUP strategy.
RISEUP was developed by NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller to connect disengaged young people to workplace opportunities.
It includes job ready programs, mentoring and vocational training for at-risk youth aged 15 to 18 to build their engagement with education, employment opportunities and the community.
Sergeant Rod Silva and Senior Constables Adam Taylor and Kelly Stewart engaged with about 500 young people during what it described as a "successful and positive day of community engagement".
"The team are running a further Operation Redirect deployment in the Cronulla area in March and look forward to another day of interacting with the local young people, and wider community," police said.
