William's ton not enough

After last week's loss to Fairfield in the One Day series, Sutherland needed to get back in the winners circle with only four games remaining before the qualifying finals on March 20.

In a great 'captains knock' after Sutherland won the toss and elected to bat, their openers Jarryd Biviano and leader Chris Williams strode out into the morning's heat intent on building the team score.

Four hours and 102 runs later Williams was caught out, with the home side's score sitting at 2-209.

Williams opening partner Biviano also came to the party putting on 88 himself before being run out with the score on 185 without loss.

A capitulation followed with four players not troubling the scorer and three players reaching double figures before finishing with a total of 242 of 78 hot overs.

Williams said it was obviously a hot day and to get into the position they were in at 0-180 it was disappointing not to cash in on the early hard work from himself and Biviano.

"The deck was a hard one to get started on before getting used to the conditions.

"Hopefully 242 is enough tomorrow and we can come out and start the same way and put them right up against it and enjoy our Sunday," he said

Unfortunately, 242 wasn't enough and the Sutherland bowlers toiled away dismissing the openers and having them at 6-78 but wearing out as their tailenders put on a 140 run stand to take the win in the 75th over.
