How many songs by Eurythmics can you name? There are more than you realise, according to the star of a new tribute show heading to Cronulla, and people from their twenties through to their sixties and beyond will find something to relate to in the music of Annie Lennox.
'Who's That Girl? Eurythmics & Annie Lennox Tribute Show' will play the Brass Monkey on Saturday, March 6 at 5.30pm.
Lead singer Clodagh Reid - a Drummoyne resident originally from Dublin, Ireland - said she and the members of the seven-piece band - which includes Engadine resident Adam Nicholls (who owns GuitarZone in Sutherland) on bass - were "so excited" to play Cronulla for the first time.
"Every time I get to perform 'Who's That Girl?' I get so excited because the music is amazing, I love the action from the crowd, everyone knows the words, and everyone is amazed by how many hits Eurythmics had and how many they know, including Would I Lie To You?, Walking On Broken Glass and Sweet Dreams," Ms Reid told the Leader.
"They have such a catalogue of exceptional music, and I'm living my dream playing it - I'm on cloud nine."
She said the venue was well-known for its food and popular among artists for being a great stage on which to play.
"Book a ticket because you will not be disappointed," she said, adding that Eurythmics music appealed to various age groups.
"I think the music is cross-generational. Sweet Dreams has been remixed by a lot of artists - it's more than a song, it's an anthem, as is Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves.
"While it's radio music that a lot of people grew up listening to, it's the quality of the music that appeals to all generations."
She said the show was "very theatrical".
"There are lots of costume changes, because Annie [Lennox] herself was very theatrical - much like David Bowie who was her inspiration, her image is a huge part of her performance, so I have a selection of costumes," she said.
"Go because the food will be amazing, and every song is a hit, every lyric is poetry and every move is magic."
