Managing 1,000 futsal players aged five to over 35 is a feat of coordination, but organising people is one of the many talents of Blakehurst residents Moya and Andrew Judd.
In fact, when the Leader put the call out to the community to tip off our journalists about locals they considered to be 'champions' at what they do, the Judds were deemed to go 'above and beyond' to make their St George Futsal Club experience a pleasure for all involved.
The Judds have been running the club for 16 years and, for something that began with 50 players on the bowling greens at South Hurstville, reaching a thousand players is testament to their passion for the sport.
But according to Mr Judd, it's the people that keep him and his wife Moya going.
"It's all about the kids enjoying themselves and having a well-organised and run competition and hopefully it lights a spark in them," Mr Judd told the Leader.
"We've worked with schools, handicapped kids in schools, all sorts of young people, and sport is a good way to develop character - and that's what we love about it.
"I do the futsal side and Moya does the organising - she's extraordinary."
Mr Judd said the club had managed players who began as children and were now playing in the men's competition.
"It's like the circle of life, it's lovely," he said.
"We're a pretty diverse community and a nice character of people and we get to watch young kids grow up to be adults and make their mark in the world the right way."
Sue Piper from Blakehurst, who nominated the Judds as subjects of a Local Champion article such as this, said the process was "so easy" for her as a parent during the four years her son, now 11, attended the game.
"You have so many things to organise as a parent, but Moya and Andrew make the process super easy and straight forward. It's hard to get a good service these days, so I'm very grateful," she said.
