Female participation in cricket is set to be boosted after the Mortdale Heights Cricket Club has received funding of $2,600 funding through the NSW ICC T20 World Cup Cricket Legacy Fund.
Oatley MP, Mark Coure, said the $2600 investment will increase female participation in the local cricket community, by providing better resources and avenues for engagement.
"This final round of funding will see grassroots cricket in the St George area share in the $2 million awarded to projects across the State," Mr Coure said.
"This will help improve local cricket for generations, as this is an investment that encourages participation while providing world class facilities for all to use."
Acting Minister for Sport, Geoff Lee, has said that the NSW Government has been proud to help upgrade cricket facilities and boost grassroots development.
"Today's announcement of the successful recipients brings the total funding amount to $6 million over the last three years, supporting over 200 projects that will continue to benefit community cricket across NSW for generations to come."
Cricket NSW Chief Executive Officer, Lee Germon, congratulated the successful recipients, acknowledging the role the legacy fund has played in helping to grow participation.
"Through the wonderful generosity of the NSW Government, $6 million in grants has been distributed to clubs and councils right across NSW to support participation growth and leave a lifelong legacy for our cricket communities," Mr Germon said.
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup will be held in 2022, with seven matches proposed to be held in Sydney. Fixtures and ticketing details will be made available later in 2021.
"This is fantastic news for local cricket communities throughout NSW and I am so excited to see these projects unveiled in the future," Mr Coure said.
