When Astrid von Lojewski-Wilson passed away following a three-year battle with breast cancer in December 2019, her heartbroken husband Richard wanted to find a way to help their three young children cope with the loss of their mother.
Mr Wilson, of Yarrawarrah, thought writing a song might help Oscar, Carlo and Lottie, then aged 10, 8 and 6, put their heartbreak into words.
The result is All About Mummy, which is not just a love letter to their adored wife and mother, but has become a fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation, the charity started by Jane McGrath, the wife of former Test cricketer Glenn McGrath, during her own breast cancer battle. She died of the disease in 2008.
The foundation provides breast cancer nurses to women battling breast cancer.
Mr Wilson decided to donate proceeds of the song's sales to the McGrath Foundation as a way to thank the charity and the two breast care nurses who supported the family throughout his wife's illness.
Mr Wilson felt compelled to write a song for Astrid despite having "no real songwriting experience" as a way to help ease the trauma of their children losing their mother at such a young age.
But he said when friends gifted them six hours in a recording studio to record a song, he found himself struggling for inspiration.
"Then in November, it dawned on me that Lottie should be the one to write the lyrics," he said.
"She has been writing little books and letters regularly and even though she's only seven she is showing some real writing skills.
"I talked to Lottie about writing a 'Mummy' song and she started writing that day.
"I'd been playing around with a few chords on the guitar, so we played and sang all the lyrics together, and realised songwriting inspiration had finally arrived.
"Oscar, Carlo and I contributed a few lines and all that was left was for me to arrange them.
"We booked the studio date and set about practicing, each of us with our own special roles to play."
They recorded the song in January under the band name "Precious Tribe".
"We're really excited about honouring our wonderful wife and mother," Mr Wilson said.
"The more we can sell, the more people suffering at the hands of this disease we can support.
"If people could tell their friends and family, share this with everyone and help us raise as much money as we can to help those suffering with breast cancer."
The two McGrath Foundation breast care nurses who cared for Astrid during her illness said their roles were to support the patient and their family.
Kim Wright said breast care nurses could decode medical jargon, answer questions about treatment options, act as a link between treating healthcare professionals and coordinate care.
"Additional services may include checking surgery sites for signs of infection if the patient is concerned or assessing for lymphoedema," she said.
"This has a huge impact on both the patient's emotional and mental well-being and also their family's.
"The family knows their loved one has extra, specialised support outside of the home."
Alison Szwajcer said it's a privilege to be able to support someone with breast cancer and their family when they're facing such a challenge.
"People with breast cancer find it helpful to have someone to turn to outside of their family, to ask questions or talk about their fears, and to listen to them when they're having down days," she said.
The song has so far raised more than $3000.
