A bushfire hazard reduction burn, which was to have taken place in Engadine on Saturday, has been postponed.
The move follows the area already being impacted by smoke from a major burn around Wattamolla in Royal National Park on Thursday and further operations in Sydney planned for this weekend.
Rural Fire Service Sutherland Shire said, "The postponement is based on modeling, which forecasts the cumulative effect of smoke from hazard reductions in the Sydney area over the coming days, which has the potential to impact on Anzac Day commemorative services and the community more broadly".
"A rescheduled date will be provided in due course," the RFS statement said.
The planned Engadine burn, which was to have occurred on Saturday April 24, is referred to as Geelong HR (hazard reduction) and covers an area of 14.5 hectares of the eastern side of Forbes Creek valley, bordered by Atherton Road and Geelong Road.
The operation, when completed, will protect about 150 homes.
The RFS expected smoke to drift towards the Kingswood Road, Engadine and Loftus areas during the morning, before shifting towards the northern end of Cooriengah Heights Road, Woronora Heights and Bangor/Menai areas in the afternoon.
