Seven new police recruits have been posted to Sutherland Shire.

Probationary constables Daniel, Griffin, Ryley, Kevin, Michael, Mitchell, and Campbell were welcomed by acting commander, Acting Superintendent Matthew Webb, who wished them "a rewarding and safe career".

The new recruits - members of class 346 - were sworn in at an attestation ceremony at the Goulburn Police Academy on Friday.

They are among 1500 extra police to be provided throughout NSW over four years following a 2019 state election promise.

Class 346 included 149 men and 55 women. Seventeen members of the class previously served in the Australian Defence Force.

State MPs Lee Evans and Mark Speakman welcomed the new probationary constables to the shire.

"Police officers perform a crucial role in protecting the community," Mr Evans said.

"I commend their choice to pursue a career in policing, where they will serve the community and keep us all safe"

Mr Speakman said he was "confident they will serve our communities with distinction".
