Green light for Bexley Town Centre upgrade as local contractor engaged

The upgrade includes high quality pavements, some new kerb ramps, new street furniture, landscaping with kerbside planting and street trees, pedestrian barrier fencing, flagpoles and updated directional signage.

The improvement program takes in Forest Road at Bexley between Albyn Street and Bayview Street, with small returns into the side streets. It also includes the small commercial area located between Broadford and Westminster Streets, and the Albyn Street carpark.

Jeff Tullock, President of the Bexley Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber supported the project.

"The Bexley Chamber of Commerce welcomes this great initiative to improve the amenity of our centre," Mr Tullock told the Leader.

"It is very welcome news."

The upgrades are designed to visually improve and activate the town centre.

The Bayside Garden Centre will be supplying the trees and plants for the project.

A highlight of the upgrades is the foliage which will provide an attractive, green visual and physical separation between pedestrians and the heavy traffic on Forest Road.

The Bexley Town Centre concept plan was placed on public exhibition during October, 2020.

Bayside Council endorsed the plans at its December meeting and agreed to allocate $50,000 from the Infrastructure Levy in 2021/22 City Projects program to implement the works.
