A 14-year-old girl was taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in a critical condition after she was struck by a van at Menai overnight.
NSW Police said an investigation is under way after the girl was struck at the intersection of Old Illawarra and New Illawarra roads, Menai, at about out 8.40pm.
Emergency services were called to the scene and NSW Ambulance paramedics treated her before she was taken to St George Hospital. She was later transferred to Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick in a critical condition.
A man, 59, who was driving a white Hiace van was taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the incident.
