Fire and Rescue NSW's Open Day activities in metropolitan Sydney will go ahead as planned, despite union officials' COVID concerns.
Firefighters will welcome the community tomorrow (Saturday, 15 May).
However, Metro fire stations such as those in the Sutherland Shire and St George area are taking part on an opt-in basis under NSW Health guidelines. Firefighters advise the public to keep an eye on Facebook pages for ongoing updates.
Alexandria Fire Station, the Emergency Services Academy at Orchard Hills and the Museum of Fire at Penrith will be opened to the public.
FRNSW Deputy Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell said an agreement was reached with the Fire Brigade Employee Union (FBEU).
"The annual FRNSW, Open Day event, offers families and children the opportunity to take a look inside their local FRNSW fire station, meet firefighters and learn about vital home fire safety," he said.
"There will be something for the whole family at the event - kids will be able to get up close with the fire truck, whilst the grown-ups will be able to find out more about home fire safety."
All planned activities and events are consistent with NSW Health guidelines to ensure the safety of both the NSW community and firefighters.
Several local stations will be opening their doors. To find out more, visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/openday
