Hurstville Museum and Gallery's Dragon's Lair Gallery is set to feature Sofie Dieu's new body of work, Water Memory, Tale of a Rippling Mirror.
Dieu was inspired by the waterways and ecosystems of the Georges River region during her residency as part of the Georges River Artist in Residence program at Carss Park in 2020.
Setting out to interpret the work of Japanese scientist Dr Masaru Emoto, Dieu demonstrates his studies in water in her own work.
Dieu has investigated her deep connection to water through ink painting, drawing and photography since 2019.
Georges River Mayor Kevin Greene said Dieu's inspiration will be exhibited in the very place she took inspiration from.
"It is a wonderful achievement that an artist from council's residency program is being showcased in this exhibition, and fantastic that the inspiration is our very own Georges River," he said.
Dieu said she was also influenced by Fabienne Vardier and Gao Xingjian.
She said their works inspired her in ink painting as they each "have a very different approach" to the art form, which are "fascinating and endlessly inspiring."
Dieu said her process always begins with researching her subject, which for this exhibition included scientific papers on water memory, rituals surrounding water and texts on the Australian ecosystem, especially Georges River.
