It's time for participants to warm up for the 50th running of the Tradies Sutherland 2 Surf, as Wanda Surf Life Saving Club kicks off the Shire's longest-running major community event on Sunday, July 18.
Held every July, the Wanda Sutherland 2 Surf is an 11km fun run from Sutherland to Wanda Surf Life Saving Club.
John and Kerryn Salmon started the event with just 50 runners, and the number of participants has grown to around 7000.
Wanda SLSC President Nathan Spinner said entries opened in early May and the response has been fantastic.
"Wanda members are so proud of this event and especially the 50-year milestone and from the response so far, I think the community is excited to have the Shire's biggest annual community event back to its traditional course and celebrating 50 years."
Two new categories have been introduced for this milestone year. Civic Disability Services are supporting an All Abilities category plus the Tradies Schools category.
This year the event starts at 7.30am at Flora Street, Sutherland, with runners to start in blocks of 500 to comply with Health restrictions. There will be no late entries on the day or clothing truck to help reduce contact.
