A breast cancer fundraiser held last weekend has raised more than $11,000 for research into the deadly disease.
About 120 women attended the Girls Go Pink event at Elouera Surf Lifesaving Club last Sunday, which was organised by Sienna Thomas and Alison Morris.
More than 70 local businesses came on board as sponsors to donate items, and the organisers thanked everyone who made a donation, bid on the silent auction or attended the event.
"There were many ladies in the room who had been touched by breast cancer themselves, or had friends or family dealing with the disease," Ms Morris said.
"With the community coming together, the Girls Go Pink event raised over $11,000 for breast cancer research."
Ms Morris, who owns Alasana Hypnotherapy and Yoga at Sylvania Waters, and Ms Thomas, a university student, joined forces to plan the event in a matter of weeks.
"We are two women whom breast cancer has touched through family and friends, and it was time for us to stand up and raise money and awareness," Ms Morris said.
"On April 19 we did not even have a venue.
"We sourced the venue, started advertising the event on April 21 and by April 23 we had sold out the event.
"We reached out to local shire businesses and asked them to donate items for lucky door prizes and silent auctions, and the response from the community has been amazing."
Guest speakers included breast cancer survivor Leah Barthel, women's empowerment coach Maddie Graham and Ms Morris, who said she had overcome many adversities in her life and now dedicated her time to helping others change their lives through her work as a hypnotherapist and yoga teacher.
