Georges River Council will investigate parking safety issues at Peakhurst Park.
Patrons of the popular soccer field have called for updated and upgraded parking to increase safety for pedestrians in the area.
Councillor Warren Tegg raised a notice of motion at last month's council meeting calling for 'council officers explore a range of immediate and longer-term traffic management and parking improvement initiatives in the streets surrounding Peakhurst Park'.
"I want to thank the parents from Peakhurst and the soccer club for raising their concerns with me," he said.
"I was out there on the weekend chatting with some of their committee members and unsurprisingly I agreed with what they were saying.
"I had to park my car in this spot following the road rules but in order to get to the game I had to walk along the road because there is barely any gap between the fence and the parking so there is nowhere for people, once they have gotten out of their cars, to get to the safety of the playing field.
"So you've got people not only reversing with concerns about getting out onto an increasingly busy road; but because of the position of that fence you have to take your kids, if you are going to a very busy soccer game, out onto the road and that is the only safe way of walking in."
Cr Tegg has asked council officers to undertake a design to extend the existing 90 degree angle parking on the southern side of Hedley Street along the length of the park frontage to the existing Hedley Street car park and examine potential improvements to pedestrian access from the car park to the Park.
The notice of motion also asked council officers to undertake a design for the relocation of the park fence on the northern side of Trafalgar Street to allow for 'rear to kerb' parking to be provided.
Council officers will also explore the potential for additional on-street parking bays to be provided on surrounding streets, including angled parking opportunities.
"I am looking forward to this report and I think hopefully we can get into some short, some medium and some long term solutions for this parking in the area," Cr Tegg said.
"Obviously not all of those things can happen right now but there are a number of things included in this report, the bulk of which come from discussions with those community members out there as to what they would like to see; and there is a range of innovative solutions both increasing the supply of parking, increasing the safety of that parking and trying to make sure it works well for both the community who live in the area and the park users.
"When I was there these was only one game of football being played and it was awash with cars, let alone when kids are playing.
"It is a heavily utilised, and a fantastic facility, I must say."
The report will also investigate restricted or timed parking during peak recreation times on Trafalgar and Gover Streets to increase parking turnover and improve traffic flows.
It also asks the council's staff to approach Punchbowl Bus Company to explore possible adjustments to routes and bus stop locations and that local residents and park users be consulted about the solutions included in the notice of motion.
Councillor Colleen Symington said she agreed with Cr Tegg's motion.
"Safety should be our number one priority particularly in relation to children and I look forward to the initiatives that we come up with," she said.
Concillors Con Hindi and Vince Badalati also raised concerns about the growing amount of traffic on surrounding roads.
The motion was passed unanimously with the final report expected to be addressed by the Local Traffic Advisory Committee for consideration.
