Croquet club celebrates its 40th year playing on greens in the Shire

Sutherland Croquet Club recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a dinner at Tradies, where special guests, past and current club members and Croquet NSW celebrated everything at the club.

In attendance on the night were Sutherland Shire Deputy Mayor Michael Forshaw, a Croquet NSW board member, the club founder and former Australian Champions (and Sutherland members); Peter Olsen, John Eddes, Ron Johnstone and Kathleen Coul.

The Golden Mallet, an annual award for an individuals contribution to their club and croquet across NSW, was presented to Sutherland member and Shire resident Lorraine Hatfield.

As well as holding the dinner, current club members celebrated on club lawns with a relaxed Sunday afternoon of fun croquet activities and a cake cutting.

"We should do this more often" was a frequently heard suggestion.

The club boasts members who regularly compete in social, club, state and national competitions, with members currently in state squads.

They also have several accredited coaches and referees, and one the Director of Coaching for Croquet NSW.

Sutherland Croquet Club is an established, active and well regarded Shire sporting club located near Sutherland Pool and PCYC.

The club is always seeking new members and caters for all ages and those who want to stay fit and connected or those that want to compete seriously.
