Bayside Mayor Councillor Joe Awada has sent a strong message of reassurance to Bayside residents that it is business as usual during COVID lockdown despite the majority of staff working from home.
"People have asked if Council is closed and although our Administration building is like a ghost town, I can assure residents, and all our clients, that council business is continuing as usual, just in an unusual manner," he said.
"Bayside Council is still open for business although the way services are delivered is very different.
"Under the tighter restrictions Council can continue to provide essential services for the maintenance, safety and upkeep of public and recreational spaces. But like everyone else Council has paused work on construction projects in line with the health orders.
"Waste, recycling, green waste and regular kerbside clean ups are continuing.
"Drop off days scheduled for Bexley and Botany depots in August are on hold. Childcare services remain open.
"'Development Applications are still being assessed and the customer service and call centre staff are ready to take your calls, just from a different location.
"Contrary to recent reports Council has suspended its long-term Working from Home Policy to ensure compliance with the current health orders. Post the pandemic Council will continue toensure that it has in place flexible and supportive work arrangements for staff. However, in the current circumstances compliance with the stay at home orders is paramount.
"Council is also encouraging residents to access its many online services which can be found on their website at www.bayside.nsw.gov.au
"It is business as usual, just in unusual times," Councillor Awada said.
