22 yr old Southern Districts player Nathan Lawson is set to make his Olympic debut at the Tokyo Olympic Games, representing Australia in the rugby sevens tournament.
Lawson made his international debut in May 2021 against New Zealand, and will now be heading for an Olympics campaign.
The prospect of playing in an Olympics hadn't sunk in for the former Junior Wallaby following the whirlwind period.
"If you asked me a year ago that I'd be in contention for any Olympic team, I would've laughed at you," he said "It's pretty surreal."
Joining him in the women's rugby 7's team will be Cronulla's Tia Hinds.
Tia Hinds started playing touch footy when she was six-years old. At 13 she was playing Rugby Sevens in Maroubra before joining the Sharks Tarsha Gale Cup side .
She came onto Rugby Australia's radar as a star of the future However, women's head coach John Manenti decided to bring Tia into the senior ranks earlier than originally planned.
The 18-year-old will make her surprise Olympic debut in Tokyo.
