Budding filmmakers who have a disability or want to celebrate those who do are once again invited to enter the ShireABILITY Film Festival.
The Sutherland Shire Council-run film festival is now in its third year and highlights the talents of a diverse range of filmmakers and provides greater opportunities for inclusivity.
It also showcases the many local organisations, facilities and spaces that celebrate people living with disability and will raise awareness of International Day of People with Disability on December 3.
Sutherland Shire mayor Steve Simpson welcomed the announcement of the competition's return and said the initiative was another step in supporting a more inclusive community for all.
"It's exciting to see interest in the ShireABILITY Film Festival grow, and in doing so, foster more opportunities for people with a disability to participate in creative initiatives and be recognised for their talents," councillor Simpson said.
"Promoting the value of diversity and inclusion across the community is one of the council's key commitments, and with these opportunities we can engage more people living with disability and harness these connections to explore how we can provide more inclusive practices in the future."
Aspiring filmmakers of all ages can enter the competition. Films must focus on ability and inclusion, feature locations and/or people from Sutherland Shire and involve at least one member of the film production with a disability, whether they be cast or crew.
Entries are now open and close October 31. There are $3500 in prizes up for grabs.
A film screening to showcase the entries is scheduled for Friday, November 26, subject to Public Health Orders.
Last year's competition winner Holly Prasser said she "felt like a movie star and had such a wonderful experience" taking part.
"The filmmaking process was so interesting and I learnt a lot," Ms Prasser said.
"I really encourage people to enter this year's competition and be a part of ShireABILITY, celebrating people of all abilities."
The council and its ShireABILITY Working Party also hosted a Family Fun Day in March, which celebrated local residents living with disability and those who care for them.
The ShireABILITY Film Festival is sponsored by Total Mobility, Aidacare and Feros Care.
