Bayside Council has approved a $3.6 million financial package to support Bayside residents and businesses experiencing financial hardship during the current COVID-19 lockdown.
The cost of the support package will be funded from the Strategic Priorities internal reserve and a review of Bayside Council's Events Program.
Bayside Council's relief measures are similar to those introduced last year and include:
- Zero percent interest rate on overdue rates and annual charges
- Rental waivers for commercial and community tenants
- Waiving outdoor dining license & footway trading fees; library overdue fees; workzone permit fees; and DA fees for residential applications with a development value of less than $100,000
- Increased community grant funding
"It is important to reassure our community, residents and businesses that we are here to support them," Bayside mayor Joe Awada said.
"I am pleased that Council has approved these measures that will provide some financial relief to residents and business owners suffering financial hardship during these stressful times."
"The measures we have adopted will, together with State and Federal government support packages, provide some relief to residents, community organisations and businesses."
Council's COVID relief package has been carefully structured to support the community while taking into account the impact the pandemic may have on Council's financial sustainability, Cr Awada said.
