Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men, having lifelong impacts on those affected and their families.
This prompted Cronulla's Fiona Dalton to step up during September for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and participate in 'The Long Run'.
The Long Run is the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia's annual awareness and fundraising campaign, calling on communities to run, walk, or wheel 72 km throughout the month to support those affected.
Ms Dalton said she wanted to do something for her dad, Mark, who passed away last year from prostate cancer.
"His birthday is in September, and he always loved to celebrate it, so this will be a way to honour him in the month of his birthday," Ms Dalton said.
"He was always looking to give back in life, so this is my way of carrying that on."
More than 3,000 people are expected to join The Long Run campaign this year in the hope of raising $1.6 million for prostate cancer research and specialist nurses.
Foundation CEO Professor Jeff Dunn AO urged men and their loved ones to come together for The Long Run.
"Without community involvement in Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and campaigns such as The Long Run, we simply will not be able to meet the growing demand for PCFA services and programs," he said
Fiona thought this would be a good way to challenge herself and keep motivated during COVID lockdown.
