Nominations are now open for the 2022 NSW Women of the Year Awards which will honour the most influential and inspiring women who contribute to community life across NSW.
Categories include the Woman of Excellence, Aboriginal Woman of the Year, Aware Super NSW Community Hero of the Year, Young Woman of the Year and Regional Woman of the Year.
NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, was named 2021 NSW Woman of Excellence and 2021 NSW Woman of the Year. She highlighted the continuing dedication to her peers during the pandemic.
"I am inspired by the female colleagues I work alongside every day as part of our COVID-19 response. I am surrounded by incredible intelligence, commitment, skill, compassion and determination," Dr Chant said.
"I encourage all women to believe in themselves and their capacity to contribute."
NSW Minister for Women, Bronnie Taylor, said the annual awards play an important role in recognising inspirational women from diverse backgrounds.
"These awards are all about celebrating women who are standing up and standing out in their communities and setting a wonderful example for everyone around them," Minister Taylor said.
The 2021 Oatley Local Woman of the Year was Lugarno Public School Principal Justine Williams.
Oatley MP, Mark Coure, is encouraging the community to nominate the inspiring local women who make outstanding contributions, whether it is within our small business community or our local sporting organisations.
"The St George region is home to an array of talented and inspiring women who continue to make us proud," Mr Coure said.
"We all know a mum, colleague or friend who is always the first to roll up their sleeves to help others, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and these women deserve to be recognised."
Winners will be selected from a shortlist by a judging panel including the Minister for Women and the Premier, with an awards ceremony to be held on 9 March 2022 at the ICC in Sydney.
Nominations are open now and close on Friday 17 September 2021.
Nominations for the Local Woman of the Year Awards will open later in the year.
