WWII veteran, 100 year old Bill Maloney and wife Elaine, 95, are oldest couple vaccinated at Rockdale Town Hall.
Bill and Elaine, who live in Bexley went to the Rockdale Town Hall Vaccination Hub for their first AstraZeneca jab yesterday and will be back for the second shot.
The couple who have been married for 73 years want to be fully vaccinated so that they can see their family once restrictions ease.
"We are just looking forward to seeing our family again," Elaine said.
Bill, who served in Papua New Guinea as a water carrier in World War II, now also has the distinction of being the Rockdale hub's oldest vaccination recipient.
They were both very appreciative of the service provided by the Rockdale Town Hall Clinic including the nurses Linden Harper and Sandra Johnston.
Bill celebrated his 100th birthday on June 24.
Bayside Mayor Joe Awada had planned to pop in and personally wish Mr Maloney a very happy 100th birthday on the day but NSW Government health restrictions were imposed on the local government area.
Not to be deterred from marking Mr Maloney's special day, the council decided on a COVID safe, contactless delivery of flowers.
He also received a certificate from the Mayor wishing him congratulations from the Bayside community.
The Rockdale Town Hall hub will close after Friday 3 September but will reopen on Monday 27 September to October 1so everyone, including Bill and Elaine, can get their second AstraZeneca vaccination and for thos who may still need a first dose.
