Council lifeguards will monitor crowd numbers and behaviour on beaches, as well as safety in the water, when patrols on Cronulla beaches resume this weekend.
Lifeguards will not have COVID health order powers, but will liaise with police over safe beach numbers and other issues.
We want to encourage everyone that you can be a lifesaver, too, by doing your part for our community and following public health orders.
- Mayor Steve Simpson
Sutherland Shire mayor Steve Simpson said he hoped beach-goers will "continue to do their bit to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across our beaches and our community".
"Once again this year we want to encourage everyone that you can be a lifesaver, too, by doing your part for our community and following public health orders," he said.
There were an estimated 5.6 million individual visits to patrolled beaches last season.
The council will again advise crowd numbers on big beach days on roadside electronic sign boards, through public transport announcements and on its website and social media channels.
