Bayside mayor Joe Awada has reflected on the achievements of the council on the fifth anniversary of its proclamation on September 9, 2016.
Speaking in a Mayoral Minute at the September 8 council meeting, Cr Awada thanked the work of his fellow councillors and council staff but added there was still much to do.
"We are still the newest Council in NSW and one of the most energetic and successful in this state," Cr Awada said.
"On this, the anniversary of our formation, we should take a few moments to reflect on what has been achieved for our community, whilst creating one strong council out of its two predecessors.
"Regardless of whether you agree with the proclamation, or not, some things cannot be refuted.
"The upgrade of sports amenities, playing fields, libraries, our parks like Rockdale and Sir Joseph Banks, playgrounds, the Cooks River foreshore, dog parks, cricket nets ....the list is extensive.
"And while these are things the community can experience and enjoy, behind the scenes we were also getting our finances, IT and governance in order.
"I acknowledge there is still much to do and we have attracted an unprecedented level of grant funding recently which will help fund some of our future initiatives.
"Our team has risen to the challenge of continuing to deliver services despite Covid and I thank each councillor for the leadership you have shown during this first term of Bayside Council."
