An earthquake centred in Victoria and measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale this morning has made its presence felt in the Bayside suburbs of Wolli Creek, Brighton and Rockdale.
It hit about 9.15am, but tremors have been felt up the coast of south-east Australia.
A second earthquake was measured 15 minutes later at the same location, this time at a magnitude of four.
The earthquake's epicentre was at Gaffneys Creek, near Mansfield, about 190 kilometres' drive north-east of Melbourne at the foothills of Victoria's high country.
But it was felt as far away as Tasmania, South Australia and the Central Coast of NSW.
Wolli Creek also felt the tremor with some residents reporting a loud crack following by shaking furniture.
