Oatley MP, Mark Coure, has written directly to NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian requesting a review of the classification of the Georges River LGA as an area of concern.
Following on from the recent decision to ease restrictions around exercise, outdoor recreation, shopping and the Singles Bubble, within the Georges River LGA, Mr Coure is requesting that these eased restrictions be taken one step further.
"Many local residents have contacted my office to express their concerns regarding their inability to work, particularly in trade based industries and I want to see them back at work as soon as possible," Mr Coure said.
"More than half of our local residents are fully vaccinated, with over 83 per cent now having had at least one dose of a vaccine. We must strike a balance between safeguarding the health and\ wellbeing of our community while keeping the economy and local businesses turning.
"Local residents are also particularly concerned about the rising case numbers within the Sydney and Randwick LGAs, where their local residents are not subject to the additional restrictions. We must unify and unite NSW through a fair and equitable approach," he said
The NSW Government has now set out a roadmap to reopen NSW, with restrictions set to ease from as early as October 11, 2021.
"The Georges River community is requesting the comfort and clarification of knowing that the plan to reopen NSW will apply throughout the State, so that they can return to work, reunite with their families and get back to doing what they love," Mr Coure said.
Mr Coure is also calling for local residents to continue to follow the health advice, get tested when required and to most importantly, get vaccinated.
"Given that restrictions could ease in as little as two weeks, the finish line is in sight and we must all continue to do the right thing to help protect ourselves and our community."
