Georges River Libraries have introduced a number of services following the easing of the NSW Public Health Order restrictions to give local residents greater access to library materials.
The Click and Collect service has returned to Penshurst, Hurstville and Clive James Libraries, allowing members to reserve items online and collect from their preferred location.
The Click and Collect service received over 1,000 reservations in the first seven days, with the community eager to pick up physical library items. The three libraries have also reopened their return chutes.
For Georges River residents who are unable to access Penshurst, Hurstville or Clive James Libraries, the LibraryGO service provides the opportunity for free, direct delivery of library materials to residents' homes.
In recent weeks, staff have delivered library items to over 350 households across the Georges River local government area and for a short time only, access to LibraryGO has been extended, with additional delivery spots for Georges River residents.
With the community's safety as priority, both LibraryGO and Click and Collect services are delivered by staff who are fully vaccinated.
Similarly, in line with the NSW Public Health Order, only those who are fully vaccinated will be able to enter the library to use Click and Collect.
Under the current restrictions, Oatley and South Hurstville Libraries remain closed, due to their small entrances which do not allow for physical distancing, or the queuing space for Click and Collect.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said, "Our community has been eager for library services, so we're delighted to bring back Click and Collect, and expand LibraryGO, while some of our library buildings remain temporarily closed. We have also extended all current library loans until 1 December.
"The safety of Georges River is very important to both Council and the wider community. As restrictions lift, we will continue to assess what physical library services can be offered.
"In the meantime, I encourage the community to visit Georges River Libraries' website to explore the suite of online services available."
