G'day readers,
Our newly minted Premier is opening up and letting it rip!
When I spoke with Liberal Party insiders after his election to the role, several of them told me he was from the 'let it rip' school of thought. I was not sure the Premier would be that bold because polls said voters wanted to open up, but slowly.
I was wrong. Mr Perrottet is moving on and doing it quickly, with no quarantine to boot. Time will tell if it was the right move or not.
Many are glad NSW is ending quarantine for international arrivals, but doing so violates the agreed national plan...I assume the Member for Cook and our PM Scott Morrison will condemn the NSW Premier for not following the national plan as he's done to Labor premiers when they don't... indeed? Nah... Who am I kidding?
While we are talking about federal and state politics overlapping, Murray Trembath tells us Holsworthy MP Melanie Gibbons will leave State Parliament and seek Liberal Party preselection for the seat of Hughes to take on Craig Kelly. The next election is going to be very interesting that's for sure.
In the upcoming local government elections, Murray reports the Sutherland Shire will feature an independent ticket in each ward, with two in E Ward. I think Independents will do well in the council elections. I reckon they'll also cause a few upsets in the upcoming federal election.
Sadly this week, Rugby League legend Norm Provan passed away. Jim Gainsford tells us St.George-Illawarra fans are throwing their support behind a petition to have the grandstand at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium named after the Immortal player. I think it's a grand gesture and one all St George locals would support. What do you think?
Jim also tells us Arncliffe's Phoebe Soegiono has been named Miss Earth Australia 2021 and will go on to represent Australia internationally as an advocate for environmental protection. I don't usually agree with beauty pageants because I think women should be regarded for more than their looks. Still, Miss Soegiono said she found the experience personally inspiring "because Miss Earth's beauty queens are more than just looks." That's good enough for me. What do you think?
Have you eaten out since we opened up? Merryn Porter tells us Cronulla restaurants have been inundated with bookings since the lockdown ended. Merryn reports on where Cronulla ranked in the top 10 suburbs for restaurant bookings in both NSW and Greater Sydney.
Last week, you received two wraps. A technical glitch caused the previous week's wrap to be sent again on Sunday. The one that was supposed to go out was sent on Monday. Thank you to the many subscribers who wrote to me to let me know. I appreciate that you took the time to do so. Let's hope you get this wrap on Sunday!
Enjoy your day. I hope it is full of love, laughter, music and news.
See you next Sunday.
